CHRISKEMPx19SVOYAGEHASBEENLONGANDWIND-INGBUTHISULTIMATEDESTINATIONTURNEDOUTTOBEEVERYTHINGHEHOPEDFOR.Mr.KempgrewupinBrunswickGeorgiaacityrichwithhistoryandvibrantwithlife.Heenjoyedachildhoodwithacloseproximitytothebeachwhichwaswalkingdistancefromhishome.MostofhisyounglifewasspentinBrunswickuntilhisfamilymovedtoWashingtonD.C.whenhewasfteen.HewenttoschoolfortwoyearsinD.C.untilanotherfamilymovebroughthimbacktoGeorgia.Mr.KempnishedhissecondaryschoolingatNorcrossHighSchoolandgraduatedwiththeclassof1990.Mr.Kempx19seducationcontinuedatGeorgiaTechthenextfall.HisfuturewasstillundecidedandaftertwoandahalfyearshetransferredtoNorthGeor-giaCollegetopursueadegreeinBiology.Hisulti-mategoalwastoendupinmedicalschoolbuthisapplicationwasdenied.HereturnedtoGeorgiaTechandearnedadegreeinCivilEngineeringnishingoffsixyearsincollegewithtwofulldegreesandavirtualtonofknowledgereadytoconquertheworkingworld.AcompanybythenameofUnitedConsultinghiredMr.KempsoonafterheleftTech.Heworkedasathirdpartyengineeronconstructionprojectsin-spectingthejobsitesandmakingsureconstructionwasgoingsmoothly.Howeverhedidnx19tfeelthatinspectingconstructionsiteswashislifex19scalling.x1cIstillwasnx19texactlysurewhatIwantedtodo.Itjustwasnx19tthekindoffulllingworkIwaslookingforx1dsaidMr.Kemp.UponleavingUnitedConsultingMr.Kemputilizedtheothersideofhismultifacetedcollegeeducationbyworkinginaveterinarianclinicfornearlyayear.SeveraloddjobsfolloweduntilhereturnedtotheengineeringworldworkingforthermSchnabelEngineeringforthreemoreyears.Hispleasantcoworkersandsteadyjobweresatisfac-torybuthefoundhimselfagainplaguedwiththefeelingthatitwasnx19thistruecalling.ThenaftersixyearsofcollegeandsixyearsintheworkforceMr.KempwentbacktoschooltoearnhisMasterx19sinEducation.From2002to2003Mr.KempworkedatGeorgiaStateUniversityandsoonafterhisquesttobecomeateacherbegan.AfterattendingseveraljobfairsandsearchingforareasonableamountoftimehemetMrs.BhardwajaPhysicsteacheratNorthviewandthenScienceDepartmentChair.HeinterviewedscoredthejobandstartedteachingPhysicsinthefallof2003.NineyearslaterandChrisKempisstillteachingPhysicsTHEJOURNEYTONORTHVIEWChrisKempx19sPathtoBecomingaTitanbyMathewPattilloCountyLineFebruary2012www.CountyLineMagazine.net20
