CountyLineOctober2011www.CountyLineMagazine.net20eopletakeupknittingformanydifferentrea-sons.Somemakehatsscarfsandmittensforfriendsandrelativeswhileothersknitasawaytorelax.ForLambertHighSchoolseniorMaceyKesslerknittingbecameawayforhertoacclimateherselfintotwonewhighschoolstogivetoothersandtoexpresshergratitudeforamiraclethatoc-curredinherlife.MaceywasplanningtostartherfreshmanyearofhighschoolwhenherworldwasturnedupsidedownbythenewsthattheirfamilywasmovingfromCoralSpringsFloridatheonlyhomeshehadknowntoKnoxvilleTennessee.LookingforawaytobelongathernewschoolandtomakenewfriendsMaceyjoinedtheschoolsknittingclub.JustwhenshehadsettledinatschoolandathomeinKnoxvilleMaceywastoldthatthefamilywouldbemovingtoAtlanta.NowgoingintoherjunioryearMaceyknewthatas-similatingintoanewschoolwouldbeevenmoredif-hertomeetnewfriendscontributetoandbecomeanactivestudentathernewschoolandanactivitythatwouldalsoresultinawayforhertogivebacktoothers.MaceyconsideredherselftobefortunateinmanywaysespeciallyinthemiraclethatsheandherfamilyhadexperiencedwhenherbrotherRyanwasborn.MaceywenttoseehercounselorDeniseEcclestonandexplainedthatshewantedtostartaknittingclubandwhyshewasmotivatedtostarttheclub.Maceythoughtthattheclubwouldbeanewoppor-tunityforhertoteachotherstudentshowtoknitandthatallthememberswouldexperiencetheben-sentoutane-mailtotheteachersaskingifanyofthemwouldbeinterestedinbeingtheclubsspon-sor.MathteacherDeidreZinksteppedforwardandClubKnitatLHSwasreadytobreakouttheiryarnandneedles.IwantedthemembersofClubKnittotakeonknit-yearwithagoalof100capssaidMacey.MybrotherRyanwasborn15weeksearly.Myparentsweretoldthatheprobablywouldnotsurviveandashecontinuedtoimprovetheyweretoldthathewouldbedisabled.TodayRyanisahealthyfresh-manatLHSandIamsogratefulforthemiraclethatheisinourlives.capsforpreemiesMaceycontactedBevMillerdi-rectorofcommunityrelationsatEmoryJohnsCreekbyJudyLeJeuneCreatingHopewithYarnPcultandshesearchedforanideathatwouldhelpSoonafterstartingatLambertHighSchoolLHSetsofgivingtoothers.Ms.EcclestonagreedandtingcapsforpreemiesastheprojectfortherstWithadesiretogivebackandaspecicgoaltoknitHospitalEJCH.MaceyandBevmettodiscussClubBeccaAndrewsKatiePorterfeldDeidreZinkRyanKesslerMaceyKesslerandJennaPaolazzi
